The Merging Of SSNIT To Ghana Card Begins Today

In today’s ICT News in Ghana, it has been confirmed that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Ghana Card merger will start today — across the various parts of the country.

Starting January 22, the Ghana Card will be the only identification Card that will be recognized by the Trust in Ghana. This merging is with the expectation to improve the way of doing business in modern era.

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) will from Monday 28, 2021 start the merger of all its contributing members on its scheme and that of the Ghana Card members on the National Identification Authority’s (NIA) database.

This initiative came after a moment of meeting with the stakeholders for the merging of SSNIT numbers with the Ghana card numbers of all SSNIT contributors. This is to provided convenience and comfort as citizens will only use one card, which would be the Ghana Card for all their SSNIT transactions in Ghana.

According to a statement issued by the Trust, this is to provide the convenience and comfort as citizens in Ghana.

“The merger is also in compliance with directives from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and Regulation 7 (1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111 which requires the use of the Ghana Card as identification for “transactions pertaining to individuals in respect of pensions,” a statement explained.

“From January 2022, the Ghana Card will be the only identification recognised by the Trust. All employers will also be required to use only the NIA numbers of their workers to process Contribution Reports and make payments. Voluntary contributors will have to pay their contributions using their NIA numbers,” it added

The Trust cleared that SSNIT contributors as members can visit the nearest SSNIT branch with their Ghana Card, a valid e-mail address and mobile phone number to have the merger done for them.
