The iPhone 8 Plus, launched in September 2017, is a successor to the famous portrait iPhone 7 Plus smartphone. After the release, of the smartphone, many felt that the phone was overrated above the 7 plus.

While the upgrades for existing 7 Plus owners are minimal (beyond wireless charging), the 8 Plus is worth the premium over the 8 to get the dual cameras, larger display, and a battery life that still beats out the previous iPhones. The camera lighting system has been advanced beyond the normal 7 Plus feature; giving a realistic studio lighting system. Same display and body size as the 7 plus which many thought Apple was lazy. Almost all the remaining features are the same as the 7 Plus.

The Apple iPhone 8 Plus gets to keep its overall styling but swaps aluminum for glass and finally gets wireless charging. The new A11 Bionic chipset boasts an extra two power-efficient cores and, for the first time ever, an in-house GPU. Then the base iPhone storage has been doubled and now starts at 64GB.

Apple iPhone 8 Plus Features

The RAM still remains the same as the 7 plus (3GB) but with much more improved iOS 13 operating system.

When it comes to mobile camera quality, Apple does not disappoint at all. iPhone 8 Plus was expected to be more advanced than the 7 plus and the 8, but just a little improvement was made. The 8 Plus includes a new sensor and image signal processor to go with its new A11 Bionic chip, promising richer colors, better low-light shots and faster autofocus but it has the same dual 12MP telephoto cameras at the back as the 7 plus as well as the 7MP selfie camera.

The big new feature this year is Portrait Lighting on the iPhone 8 Plus, which mimics pro lighting setups with presets called Studio, Contour, and Stage. But it’s not nearly as impressive as Portrait mode was when it debuted on the iPhone 7 Plus.

Performance and Battery

It can’t be a new iPhone without a new Apple chip and this year the custom silicon is called A11 Bionic. Apple has moved from a quad-core processor up to a six-core one with a first-ever Apple-designed GPU (previous chipsets used GPUs by PowerVR). There are 3GB of RAM inside the Apple iPhone 8 Plus with a more efficient iOS 13.The A11 Bionic chip features two high-powered 2.1GHz Monsoon cores that are 25% more powerful than the 2.34GHz Hurricane ones in the A10 Fusion. The four Mistral cores are power efficient and are 75% faster than the two low-power Zephyr cores in the A10 Fusion. All those six cores can run simultaneously giving the device maximum speed.
