With an effort to support education in Ghana, the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) has donated 20 laptop computers including accessories to Valley View University, for their Kumasi branch at the Oduom Campus.
The donation from GIFEC is to help promote the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with a valued price at GHS 60,000 — to the University.
In GIFEC’s vision of “bridging the digital divide across the country”, this donation is part of it and in an address read by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kofi Asante.
Mr. Kofi Asante therefore, advised the school authorities to ensure that the laptop computers are maintained to serve the purpose for the donation towards increasing access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the nation, particularly in the rural areas.
The CEO of GIFEC further added that, GIFEC was a universal fund meant for the underserved and unserved communities in the countries which equally deserved the right to be part of the spread and usage of Information Technology (IT) in all facets of the national economy.
The Dean of Students at the Valley View University, being the person of Pastor Dr. Kwabena Annor Boafo, praised GIFEC for the support which he said could not have come at a better time.
Pastor Dr. Kwabena Annor Boafo promised the school’s readiness to adopt a prudent maintenance culture for the computers to ensure that they last longer to serve many more students and members of the various faculties in the school.
