MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, is a multinational mobile telecommunications company based in South Africa that operates in several African and Asian markets.

The number of MTN subscribers in Ghana is 17,790,000. In 2018, MTN Ghana launched its initial public offering (IPO). (IPO). The IPO was completed on July 31, 2019. Qualifying applicants were offered up to 4,637,394,533 MTN Ghana ordinary shares, representing 35% of the company’s equity.

This was part of a November 2015 agreement between MTN Ghana and Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) for MTN Ghana to deploy 4G LTE mobile services to its Ghanaian customers. MTN mobile money was included as a payment option for the MTN share offer subscription, along with other payment methods.
