About Cerritos College
Cerritos College is a public community college in Norwalk, California. It offers degrees and certificates in 87 areas of study in nine divisions.
In 1955, the college was established. It was given that name in honor of Rancho Los Cerritos, a historic local ranch. In turn, the institution served as some of the motivation for the nearby city of Dairy Valley to change its name to Cerritos. The district includes Hawaiian Gardens, Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Norwalk, and La Mirada.
The college first rented space in the now-defunct Excelsior High School in September 1956. On July 24, 1957, the Cerritos Junior College District won a legal battle with Dairy Valley (now Cerritos) to use the undeveloped land as a learning facility. The college then relocated to the current location in September 1959.
Housing for students with disabilities was first made available at Cerritos Community College in California on June 11, 2020.
