About GLO Ghana
Globacom Limited, also known as Glo, is a Nigerian multinational telecommunications company founded on August 29, 2003, by Mike Adenuga.
GLO received an operating license in Ghana in May 2008 through its Glo Mobile division, with plans to capture 30% of the current 11 million subscriber market within 18 months of launch.
They intend to achieve this by launching bundled voice and Internet services for Ghana, with a specific focus on ‘un-serviced’ areas outside of Ghana’s two major cities, Accra and Kumasi. Glo Mobile Ghana was supposed to go live in the first quarter of 2010.
This was pushed back to the third quarter of 2011, then to 2012. The “Reserve your number” campaign was launched by Glo Ghana in January 2012, but the network has yet to be launched.
GLO launched the GLO1 sub-marine optical fiber as part of its maiden operation in Ghana on April 8, 2011, ushering in another major player in the Ghana telecommunications industry.
