Water pumps that move water from a lower to a higher level are known as submersible pumps and they are very useful when we have them in our homes to make our work of drawing water easier.

If you have well water, you’ll need a pump to keep it flowing. The pump’s job is to pull water from the well and force it through the piping system under pressure. This directs the water to the desired location.

In this article, we are taking a look at water pump machines and how much they cost.

Types Of Pumps

There are two basic types of pumps

  1. Manual pumps: which uses manpower to pump water
  2. Electric pumps: uses electricity to pump and generate the water.

How Electric Water Pumps works

Electric submersible pumps are multistage centrifugal pumps operating in a vertical position. Liquids, accelerated by the impeller, lose their kinetic energy in the diffuser, where a conversion of kinetic to pressure energy takes place.

The pump shaft is connected to the gas separator or the protector by a mechanical coupling at the bottom of the pump. Fluids enter the pump through an intake screen and are lifted by the pump stages. Other parts include the radial bearings (bushings) distributed along the length of the shaft, providing radial support to the pump shaft. An optional thrust bearing takes up part of the axial forces arising in the pump, but most of those forces are absorbed by the protector’s thrust bearing.

How Manual Water Pumps works

A manual pump is operated by moving a handle up and down. When you squeeze the handle, a vacuum is created, which closes a valve on the spout and sucks water from the well. When you raise the handle, the water pressure closes one valve to prevent the water from returning to the well and opens the one in the spout to force the water out.
