What is Unity?
Unity is a cross-platform 2D and 3D game developer engine. The engine was developed and released in 2005 by Unity Technologies for only Mac OS X users. Over the years, the game engine has evolved and now is available for all operating systems.
Unity engine is believed to be one of the simplest and easiest engines for developers. It is easy to use because it also comes with drag-and-drop functionalities. There are also plugins you can download to make it even better.
It has two rendering pipelines in addition to its legacy pipeline. There is the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) and Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
You can use Unity on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. This helps make it easy to use the game engine regardless of the environment you are comfortable with.
How to download Unity Engine on Windows
To download the Unity game engine, follow the procedure below. Before you download Unity your system must meet certain requirements. Below are the requirements for installing the software.
- OS: Windows 7, 8,8.1, 10, 11 64-bits only. Mac OS X High Sierra or later versions. Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04. CentOS 7.
- GPU: Graphics card with Direct X10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities
Visit the Unity download page unity.com/download
Click on the download button to download the software.
Check your download folder and locate “UnityHubSetup.exe”
Double-click on the setup files to start the installation.
What you downloaded is known as the Unity Hub. During the installation process, you will use the Unity Hub installer to finally select the version of Unity you want to install on your computer.
After successfully installing the engine, you can now start creating your projects from the Unity dashboard.
