About GLO
GLO was granted a license to operate in Ghana through its Glo Mobile division in 2008, with plans to capture 30% of the current 11 million subscriber market within 18 months of launch.
They plan to do so by launching bundled voice and Internet services in Ghana, with a focus on ‘un-serviced’ areas outside of Accra and Kumasi. Glo Mobile Ghana planned to launch its service in the first quarter of 2010.
This was pushed back to the third quarter of 2011, and then again to 2012. The “Maintain your number” campaign was launched by Glo Ghana in January 2012, but the network has yet to be launched.
GLO launched the GLO1 sub-marine optical fiber as part of its first operation in Ghana on April 8, 2011, ushering in another major player in Ghana’s telecommunications industry.
