About AMDA
The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) is a private performing arts conservatory with campuses in Los Angeles, California, and New York City. The academy grants both two-year diplomas in professional performing and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees. Acting, musical theater, dance, and performing arts programs are available. The National Association of Schools of Theatre has granted it accreditation.
Philip Burton and the New York theater scene established AMDA in 1964. The school relocated to a new building on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village in 1970 after outgrowing its old space on East 23rd Street. A transfer to the Ansonia Building was required a few years later due to further expansion. A second facility, which is now the main location, was opened in the 1990s.
The institution opened AMDA Los Angeles in the Vine Tower Building in 2003 as part of its westward expansion.
