Linking your SSNIT number to your Ghana Card has never been thought could have been done until the Social Security board members collaborated with National Identification Authority to help all SSNIT contributors link their Ghana Card to their SSNIT number.

The Social Security And National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) stated today, being Monday, 28th June, 2021 — that it is merging the Social Security numbers of all SSNIT members with their Ghana Card numbers acquired from the National Identification Authority.

The release explained that the merger was in compliance with directives from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and Regulation 7 (1) of the National Identity Register Regulations, 2012, L.I. 2111 which required the use of the Ghana Card as identification for “transactions pertaining to individuals in respect of pensions”.

Requirements for Linking SSNIT Number To Ghana Card

Before SSNIT member can link their scheme’s number to Ghana card, these requirements have to be present.

  • Your NIA Card (Ghana Card)
  • Your SSNIT Number
  • Your Phone number
  • An active email address

Method 1:

How To Link Your SSNIT Number To Your Ghana Card Using Shortcode

SSNIT – GHANA CARD MERGER WALKTHROUGH

To merge your SSNIT number and NIA number (Ghana Card Personal Identification Number), do the following:

  1. Enter the SSNIT shortcode, *711*9# on your phone
  2. Select the option 1 — Merge NIA number with SSNIT number
  3. Enter your SSNIT number and press send
  4. Enter your email address
  5. Enter the NIA (Ghana Card) number
  6. Choose option 1 to proceed to merge both your SSNIT & NIA numbers.

NB: In checking your Merger status, you would need your SSNIT number.

After entering you SSNIT number, you would then be asked for your NIA number (Personal ID Number) which has a format such as GHA-123456789-0 if and only if you have already given info regarding your email/phone number to SSNIT. If not you would be asked for these details before you proceed.

After submitting your NIA number, you would be asked to confirm whether you would like/permit NIA to share your info with SSNIT. Confirm and wait for a confirmation via SMS/Email from SSNIT regarding the status of your Merger.

A message will then pop up telling you that the merger process ongoing. After it has gone through, you shall see the notification that it is successful and you would receive an e-mail.

How To Link Your SSNIT Number To Your Ghana Card using SSNIT portal

Alternatively, SSNIT members in Ghana can logon to the scheme’s website to link their SSNIT number to their Ghana Card number.

  1. Logon to ssnit.org.gh/member
  2. Sign-in with your SSNIT number and password
  3. Click on “Merge My NIA” button at the top bar
  4. Enter your NIA number to continue
  5. Confirm your email and phone number
  6. Click on submit to link your SSNIT number to your Ghana Card number

You are now done with the merging of SSNIT and NIA (Ghana Card) numbers at ease.

Note: Members of the scheme, who provided their SSNIT numbers during the NIA registration, should note that their numbers have been merged already. Such individuals may dial the short code *711*9# and select option two to check the status of the merger.“ You can also read about how to check your Status.

You have the option to also walk to the nearest SSNIT branch with your Ghana Card, a valid email address and phone number to have the merge done for you. After this merging is done, you can use your Ghana Cards to do business transactions.
