The easiest way you can see that someone is spying on your WhatsApp account is; when you see a computer icon among your status bar. This indicates that someone has linked your account to either Whatsapp web or a third-party app that allows you to synchronize others WhatsApp.
Although this is an indication, someone who knows what they are doing will find a way to hide this notification icon which indicates your WhatsApp account has been linked to another device.
Another way to find out that someone is spying on your WhatsApp account is by following the steps below.
- Open your WhatsApp application.
- Tap on the three vertically arranged dots located at the top right corner of the app.
- Tap on Linked devices.
- If your WhatsApp has a device or devices listed below the green LINK DEVICE, then it means your account has been linked to another device.
- If you are not the one who links, tap on each device and tap on LOG OUT.
What Happens If My WhatsApp is Linked to a Device
If your account is linked to a device, it means you have given the device access to operate your WhatsApp account like doing it on your own mobile.
You read messages, send messages, make voice and video calls, download media and documents, and your can also watch and update status.
This feature intends to allow people who use multiple devices to access their WhatsApp account without switching from one account to the other.
How to Protect your WhatsApp Account
- Enable two steps verification.
- Never share your OTP codes.
- Make sure your WhatsApp is password or fingerprint-protected.
- Check the linked devices and remove the ones that you did not add.
There are more advanced ways of spying on your phone. What you need to do is always be security conscious and put the right things you need to do to prevent your phone from these people. Avoid downloading and installing apps from unknown sources when may lead to installing spyware on your device.
