E-learning: University of Ghana Makes Provision For Students Without Access To Online Resources.

Taking a look at some of the complaints from some students of the University of Ghana — that the decision to continue academic activities online will place them in a disadvantage because of challenges with the internet connectivity, management of the university (University of Ghana) has moved to address those issues.

In a notice to members of the university community, Pro-Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students Affairs, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo outlined some options that the university have made available for those students.

Students have been given the option of taking their courses during an intensive 3-week teaching period after the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided and before the university resumes for the 2020/2021 academic year. This could be advantage of e-learning in Ghana as students have the chance to learn from home.

Also, the students may also decide to take the courses over the next three years, upon resumption of the university.

“In recognition of the genuine accessibility challenges faced by a minority of the student population, provision is being made for such students who may not be able to enroll on the online platform to be offered the following options:

Take the courses during an intensive 3-week teaching period. This will be followed by a week’s revision and one week of examinations. The period for this would be after the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided and before the
University resumes for the 2020/2021 academic year. Final year students will be prioritised for this option. Course Instructors involved will be compensated at the University’s approved part-time rates.

Take the courses over the next three years, upon resumption of the University. This will be at no cost to the students. Kindly note that these two options are not mutually exclusive,” Prof. Nana Amfo indicated in the notice.

Meanwhile, the University has revised the rest of the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.

There will be seven weeks of online teaching and learning, starting from Tuesday, April 14 to Friday, May 29.

Students will have from Monday June 1 to Friday June 5 to revise their notes ahead of the start of the examination.

Examination for full-time students has been scheduled for Monday June 8 – Friday, July 3, 2020.

Undergraduate students have up to July 21, 2020 to submit their long essays/project works.

The deadline for the submission of Graduate These has also been extended.

The March 31 deadline has been extended to July 31 and the July 31 deadline also extended to October 30.
