Brief about WhatsApp:

  • It was launched in 2009. In 2014, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for almost $21.8 billion at a time when the messaging app already had 500 million users.
  • Today, WhatsApp announced that it has reached the 2 billion users milestone. Since the acquisition, WhatsApp has got a lot of features including video call, Snapchat like status, end to end encryption etc.

Up to date, only one social media platform had reached the 2 billion user mark. WhatsApp joins the club as the second social media platform lead by its sister platform Facebook, all under the same company.

WhatsApp is still strong with its end-to-end encryption policy, which makes it impossible for anyone and not even them at WhatsApp to see your chats and messages.
